The Valley makes up an area of nearly 130 square miles that sits at an elevation of 400 feet.

The San Lorenzo Valley was once the center of California's logging industry, and today still it is home to millions of redwood trees. Highway 9 runs through the Valley, and traverses through the communities of Ben Lomond, Felton, Brookdale and Boulder Creek. The San Lorenzo River also passes through the Valley before it flows on the Monterey Bay and then its final destination, the Pacific Ocean. The Valley is mostly rural and woodsy, to the north is the Big Basin Redwoods State Park and to the south is Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park .

Today, residents are quite content to reside in the San Lorenzo Valley, and most residents do quite well for themselves. The nearest hospital is about nine miles way in Los Gatos. Construction, education and professional, scientific, and technical services are the industries in which the largest number of San Lorenzo Valley residents are employed. The area, because of its wooded nature and reclusiveness, is home to several camps and retreats. Attractions include the Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club, Highlands County Park, Ben Lomond County Park, Boulder Creek Park, Forest Swimming Pool, Castle Rock State Park, and two libraries, the Boulder Creek Branch Santa Cruz City-County Library and the Felton Branch Santa Cruz City-County Library.
